Rock Art Doyen Dies
Patricia Vinnicombe, doyen of rock art research and author of the classic "People of the Eland", died earlier this year. Patricia Vinnicombe was born in Underberg in the foothills of the Drakensberg on the farm West Ilsley, wehre there were a number of San/Bushman rock art paintings. In her major book , published in 1976, she returned to the Drakensberg to systematically record the paintings of the Drakensberg. The book includes 200 of her extraordinary tracings, reproductions and photographs. The book began a resurgence of interest in Southern African rock art research. A copy of Vinnicombe's book People of the Eland is for sale for R4000.00.
