Kingswalden Lodge
for a quiet country getaway in the most beautiful part of the Northern Province

Mapungubwe

Mapungubwe was the capital of a 13th-century nation state that covered 30 000 km² 100km west of present-day Messina. Impressive finds such as a gold rhino, ivory artefacts, glass beads and even Persian ceramics reveal that the state had well-developed links with the Indian Ocean trade routes.

Set in the country's youngest and northernmost national park, Mapungubwe seems to have been only occupied for 60-80 years when a change in climate made agriculture difficult and power shifted northwards to Great Zimbabwe.
